Things don’t always go as expected. Some of you thought you’d be married by now. Some of you are waiting for the perfect job, and some of you think you’ll be happy once you make it through the hardship you’ve been walking through.
Wherever you’re at this holiday season, God says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to “rejoice always,” which means he thinks it’s possible for you to have joy today. In fact, he commands it.
Read the scriptures beside the truths below, and answer the questions following.
God has a purpose for your life. Today.
Read Jeremiah 1:5
God has something good for you. He writes our story in seasons. And whether you're in one you love or hate, it's necessary for whatever good God wants to do. Cling to hope. Let yourself feel. But never stop looking up. Your Father sees you, delights in you, and loves to do good toward you.
Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, Isaiah 28:23-29, Isaiah 42:23-26
God thinks he can use you. Right here. Right now. It might seem crazy, but he's never wrong. He decided that it would bring him more glory to put you here over anywhere else. In this life stage. In these circumstances. In this city. With these people. Trust him. Embrace it. Surrender to the one who knows better than you do.
Read Acts 17:26-27, Isaiah 48:11
Which of the points above is hardest for you to believe? Why?
Which of the scriptures above brings you the most hope or comfort? Write it down on something & carry it with you today. Find moments to read it over and over throughout your day.
What causes you to doubt God’s goodness & sovereignty?
Pray: God me to believe that You are in control, that You have good plans me and that You wants to use you. Pleased accomplish all the good He wants to do in and around me. Help me to surrender to your will where I might be fighting it or sitting in discontentment. Use me in big ways today and through the rest of this holiday season.
